Orchid Quilt Finished

I finished The Orchid Quilt on Wednesday.  The piecing went quickly and easily I didn't really run into any trouble until I was quilting it. My seam ripper got a really good workout this week. Even though I had basted like crazy I kept getting creases and folds in the backing. I left a few of them but for the most part they all got taken out and requilted.

This made me decide that I need to try a new method of basting. I picked up some 505 adhesive at Joann's today so hopefully that works out a little better for me.

As I said before this quilt was made for my mother-in-law. She has only seen pictures of it but seems to be very happy with the outcome. I'll be getting it packed up to send to her next week.

What's up next?

I will be working on a 95" square Carpenters Star quilt for my sister. I'm hoping to get it done before she moves across the country.

I'm also starting a pattern tester quilt for a Nightingale Quilts pattern.

Of course, I will be working on the Lost Lake quilt along, which has some very exciting news that I will be announcing on Monday.

I'm also following the Midnight Mystery Quilt Along over at Meadow Mist Designs.

Would you guys like for me to write out my steps on creating my Carpenter's Star quilt? I'll be doing it with half square triangles so no y-seams.

Linking up with Richard and Tanya QuiltsConfessions of a Fabric Addict, and Crazy Mom Quilts go check out all of the other awesome projects!

  1. I love the Orchid Quilt. Purple is my favorite color. I spray baste all the time and rarely have any creases.

  3. I love the purples! I have never spray basted a quilt before, but know so many do and have great success. You MIL will love it for a long, long time!

  4. Your quilt turned out beautiful! Purple is my favorite color. I would love to see your tutorial on the Carpenters Star quilt. I purchased the Quick Quarter2 quilters ruler for marking half square triangles and really like it. I am in doing the Scrap Dance Mystery Quilt Along with Caroline @From my Carolina Home blog and am really enjoying making the half square triangles for the quilt. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!

  5. Oh it turned out beautifully!! It's just got such a wow factor! I love the 505 adhesive for basting, I don't have anywhere that's really big enough to get a good stretch to pin baste so spray baste works well. It can be stinky stuff though - open the window!

  6. This is just beautiful! Sorry to hear about your quilting issues. I've never tried spray basting so you'll have to tell me how it goes. Since I don't have anyplace big enough to lay out and pin my quilts I've started using my dining room table along with industrial clamps to hold the layers in place while I pin it. Luckily, my current dining room table is old and already scuffed up so if a pin scratches it a bit, it's not even noticeable. Once we get a new dining room table, that one will go up to my sewing studio and I'm going to cut into it and create a drop-in for my machine.
